So You Got Something to Say About WE LIVE IN PUBLIC?

Monday, August 24th, 2009

We love traditional press outlets but we think it’s cool that WE LIVE IN PUBLIC is showing up all over the internet in various blogs and sites. Check out what bloggers and journalists around the globe have said about us recently:

The Lumiere Reader
“Ondi Timoner is establishing herself as one of the more well-known and prescient documentary filmmakers around… [She] seems to be attracted to highly flawed figures, people who would be considered megalomaniacs if they weren’t shown as relentlessly human…”
http://lumiere.net.nz/reader//item/2247

Salient.
“Director Ondi Timoner (Dig!), almost certainly the most interesting documentary maker of this decade…”
http://www.salient.org.nz/arts/film/framing-reality

Emergent Chaos
“I think what I like most about WE LIVE IN PUBLIC is how it shows how well that nothing to hide idea screws with people’s lives…”
http://www.emergentchaos.com/archives/2009/08/we_live_in_public_the_mov.html

RealTime Arts
“…while Timoner is quick to point out that the film is less a portrait of Harris than an investigation of the potentially dehumanising impact of the internet on society, the image of the mercurial visionary/madman at its centre, while at times affectionate, is not always a flattering one…”

The Wrap-Up from Down Under

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

The biggest newspaper in Melbourne, Australia recently profiled one of the biggest docs of 2009 — us :) .   Check out the article on Ondi Timoner and WE LIVE IN PUBLIC in The Age, printed to coincide with our screenings at the Melbourne Film Festival.

We had so much fun in Oz, we sold out our screening and made a bunch of friends Down Under to boot.  Melbourne was a really cool city overall + above all, the people are proud of their food, bars and general good taste.  Given the film’s warm reception by the Melbourners, we aren’t going to argue with them.

And check out yet another New Zealand blog about WE LIVE IN PUBLIC — http://www.voxy.co.nz/entertainment/internet-pioneer039s-life-public-documented-new-film/5/19318
Despite some technical issues at our second Kiwi screening, the packed crowd patiently waited out the problems and we had a lively Q+A that wouldn’t quit — we had to move the whole crowd over to a nearby bar to continue the discussion!

Bitch Magazine on Women in Film

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

WE LIVE IN PUBLIC director Ondi Timoner gets a mention on Bitch Magazine’s website in a post about female film directors.   At a time when women are making incredible headway in so many areas that were once boys clubs, film directing still seems to be overwhelmingly dominated by dudes.   Here are a few more women in film that are good friends of ours, insanely talented and that Bitch Magazine didn’t include:

Amy Berg won the Oscar for DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
Marina Zenovich — POLANSKI
Margaret Brown — THE ORDER OF MYTHS

Ondi says, “We’re all out there exploring the world and blazing our own trails, but when we do connect with other female filmmakers I feel like I’m meeting members of my own tribe and it’s great.”  We love seeing women making cool art — rock on!

Suicide Girls Love WE LIVE IN PUBLIC

WE LIVE IN PUBLIC gets a little risque exposure thanks to a submission over at Suicide Girls by heathervescent, who posted an article about our film and some of the questions it raises about the internet’s impact on our social interactions and our lives. We aren’t surprised that a website that redefined the feminine sexual image for online porn would have a viewership that is interested in the implications of living in public! Be sure to scroll down to the comments section where the author writes,

“I really encourage you to see this movie. I can’t stop thinking about the questions it raises. I wish I had the answers but I think we’re all figuring them out.”
