“I really encourage you to see this movie. I can’t stop thinking about the questions it raises. I wish I had the answers but I think we’re all figuring them out.”

WE LIVE IN PUBLIC is back in Australia, this time for the Melbourne International Film Festival. The Kiwis set a high benchmark for general hospitality and charm but Melbourne has proven to be a compelling stop so far with a very different pace and its own selling points. For instance… this guy!
He took good care of us at Madame Brussels bar, where the bartenders wear their tennis whites and every day is a garden party replete with Grandma’s patio furniture and liberal use of Pimm’s. We flipped! And then got it together to invite this hot toddy master to our FIRST MELBOURNE SCREENING:
Wednesday July 29th @ ACMI2
Tickets HERE
Post-screening Q+A with Ondi to follow
The food in Australia is amazing and while the people here actually let us occasionally pay for stuff (unlike in New Zealand where you’d have to punch someone unconscious to pick up a check) we are being shown great hospitality and look forward to some sightseeing tomorrow with Jean Yves, Rwandan architect, and Paul Wiegard from Madman Entertainment on Thursday. We are sure to see some koalas and native fauna, but we are also hoping for some more nutball bar and restaurant discoveries amid the buzz of the film festival. Rock!
New Zealanders packed all three screenings of WE LIVE IN PUBLIC in Auckland and Wellington. One Kiwi blogger who writes for The Dominion Post (Wellington’s major daily paper) couldn’t get the film out of his head, writing “I squirmed in my seat” and that he was “blown away by the film.”
While in the neighborhood, Ondi rocked the radio airwaves.
bFM: http://www.95bfm.com/default,casts.sm
Kiwi FM: http://kiwifm.co.nz/ProgramGuide/Wammo/tabid/75/Default.aspx
And Radio Wammo declared WE LIVE IN PUBLIC an Editor’s Pick and gave us a little blog feature: http://www.wammo.co.nz/2009/07/23/nzff-we-live-in-public/
Ondi also stopped into the studios of TV3 New Zealand for an on-air lovefest!
“The doco about one of the first dot com kids took a decade to shoot and was cut from a mind-boggling 5,000 hours of footage. To top it all off We Live In Public took home the grand jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival, making director Ondi Timoner the only person to win the coveted award twice.”
Thanks for making the New Zealand Film Festival run of WE LIVE IN PUBLIC such a success. We can’t wait to return!
We all went to the beach yesterday and worked off our jetlag while laughing at the handful of dogs going ballistic in the volcanic sand and gazing at the glorious sky as the sun went down.
Today it’s wine tasting on some island that’s a stone’s throw from Auckland and then… our New Zealand premiere! If you are in the neighborhood — 9:00 PM July 23rd at Sky City Cinemas.
Hi from Interloper Films…
WE LIVE IN PUBLIC is headed for our European premiere this at the prestigious Karlovy Vary festival just outside of Prague. Not only is this an amazing event in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but it’s also marks the first time our documentary will be in official competition since we won Sundance in January 2009. We are hoping for another big win
Director Ondi Timoner will be in attendance to support the film and have post-screening Q+As.
Screening times:
July 9 Čas Cinema 18:30
July 10 Panasonic Cinema 13:00
From Prague, she heads to London to do long-lead press for our upcoming ***theatrical release*** through the most innovative distribution company in the UK, Dogwoof. Our theatrical run will kick off at the London Film Festival in mid-October.
We are coming off of our incredible LA premiere at the LAFF — both screenings were oversold out, the buzz continues + the stars are aligned for WE LIVE IN PUBLIC… quite literally. Check it out.
Hey Hollywood… thanks for coming out + see you at the theatrical
(details below)!
If you missed it or just want to walk down memory lane with us, check
out the intro to our LA premiere. We had an interrogation booth on-hand at the afterparties of both the LA and NYC premieres, and we’ve posted some of the highly entertaining results online.
Here’s what the LA press had to say about it:
LA Weekly “CRITIC’S PICK WE LIVE IN PUBLIC (USA) Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, director Ondi Timoner’s remarkable documentary follows obsessive self-documenter Josh Harris on his decadelong odyssey from multimillionaire Internet pioneer and Manhattan art-world cause célèbre to bankrupt (financially and emotionally), mentally unhinged exile…”
Premium Hollywood “the most newsworthy film I’ll see at the Los Angeles Film Festival, and maybe anywhere else for a while…”
LAToday “The film has already won a Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and played to an over-sold out audience at the LA premiere at the LA Film Festival on Sunday night, which included Billy Idol and Brandon Boyd (Incubus) and actors Adrian Grenier and Eliza Dushku. Twitterholic celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore are also already big fans, and you’ll no doubt soon follow.”
All of this has spurred us on to prepare here at home for our US theatrical roll-out, when WE LIVE IN PUBLIC hits NY at the IFC center on Aug. 28th and Los Angeles on Sept. 25th. San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Chicago, Austin, Portland and other cities will be added soon. We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this to you, the public. Rock!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that We Live In Public has been acquired into the permanent film collection by the NY Museum of Modern Art. This is Ondi’s second film to receive this honor — Dig! was purchased by the museum in 2004.
