Hot Off The Presses For WE LIVE IN PUBLIC

Friday, August 28th, 2009

WE LIVE IN PUBLIC is racking up more attention as we launch our theatrical run, beginning in New York today at the IFC Center (BUY TICKETS HERE!) This week we received great press in Time Out, The New Yorker and New York Magazine this week and Lumiere Magazine called Director Ondi Timoner one of the most “prescient filmmakers around” but if that weren’t cool enough, check out some of the new articles that are hot off of the virtual presses:

Indiewire
Unsatisfied with “Public” Offers, Ondi Timoner Opts to Do It Herself
“Eight months after receiving the grand jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival – the second time she’s won the coveted documentary award – filmmaker Ondi Timoner is bringing her latest film to theaters herself…”
http://www.indiewire.com/article/2009/08/28/unsatisfied_with_public_offers_ondi_timoner_opts_to_do_it_herself/

The L Magazine
“You need to see it in order to understand it… [Timoner] offers a prophetic glimpse into the madness”
http://www.thelmagazine.com/newyork/internet-narcissism-in-beta/Content?oid=1251304

MTV
“Harris is as much a con man as he is a prophet, a savvy computer nerd one minute, a fast-talking party boy on the verge of a breakdown the next. And it all makes for a riveting viewing experience.”
http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1619733/story.jhtml

Filmcritic.com
“Engrossing and frightening… Part character study, part cautionary thriller, We Live in Public provides one of the more effective if not profound looks at the colonization of the internet at the expense of individuality”
http://www.filmcritic.com/misc/emporium.nsf/reviews/We-Live-in-Public

artloversnewyork
“…the ending is no let down from the mesmerizing trip Ondi Timoner orchestrates throughout WE LIVE IN PUBLIC.”
http://www.artloversnewyork.com/zine/movie/2009/08/27/we-live-in-public/

MovieWeb
“WE LIVE IN PUBLIC… will inevitably shake us all to the core about what the future brings for all of us as we increasingly live, work and love through media and technology.”
http://www.movieweb.com/movies/film/FI2dj26b3exC44/

Indiewire
“[Josh Harris] spent his life implementing his unique vision of the future, where technology and media dictate human social interaction and define our personal identity… and Timoner caught it all on camera”
http://www.indiewire.com/article/authenticity_emotionality_and_technology_ondi_timoner_on_we_live_in_public/

Epoch Times
“Harris truly anticipated the ways in which the Internet would break down traditional notions of privacy, stoking a cyber form of exhibitionism.”
http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/content/view/21565/

Spout Blog
“Harris is a great anti-hero, and the film more than convinces that we haven’t even begun to grapple with the ramifications of our ‘always on’ internet personas…”
http://blog.spout.com/2009/08/26/we-live-in-public-review/

Cole Smithey: The Smartest Film Critic In The World
“Thought-provoking… It could signify the end of the world as we know it.”

Ondi Timoner is becoming recognized as one of the most important filmmakers of our time and this theatrical run is not to be missed — there’s no substitute for seeing this on the big screen!

We Are Opening Theatrically in NYC This Friday!

Monday, August 24th, 2009

It is impossible to overstate how big of a week this is for WE LIVE IN PUBLIC.  We are opening theatrically at one of the coolest theaters in one of the greatest cities in the world and this is truly the culmination of so much blood, sweat and tears.  The film is launching its theatrical run at the IFC Center in NYC on August 28th.  We have had so much incredible feedback and press and critical praise for both the film and for director Ondi Timoner along the way and we have enjoyed many successes over the course of the festival run, but this is certainly the biggest moment for our film since we premiered at Sundance (which we won!)

Showtimes:
1:30, 3:30, 5:35, 7:45, 9:55, plus late shows on Fri & Sat at 11:55
Live Q&As with Josh and Ondi @ 7:45 & 9:55 on Fri & Sat and Josh will continue on post-weekend to support the Q+As for the entire week.

Buy tickets HERE at Movietickets.com
WE LIVE IN PUBLIC is a New York film and the opening of the film in NYC is bound to be another a historic event.  In addition to a post-screening Q+A’s with star Josh Harris and director Director Ondi Timoner, expect the unexpected throughout the New York run as the colorful characters from the doc itself — insiders and outsiders, artists, conspiracists, cultural pioneers and freaks — show up to the screenings.  Our Q+As on opening night will be webcast live on weliveinpublicthemovie.com.  If you can’t make it for the screenings, come tune in at 9:15pm and 11:25pm PST on Friday, August 28th to see the Q+A session webcast live!

To celebrate opening night, we are throwing a big party at B.East — bring your ticket stub for entry.  11pm.  Our infamous INTERROGATION BOOTH will be on hand to capture all you mad revelers as you give us your musings on this modern age and life in public.

Check out what happened when the film played at the Lincoln Center/MoMA closing night at New Directors New Films this spring to a packed audience:

The next night at Lincoln Center there were even more audience shenanigans as Josh Harris faces a blast from his past who opted not to respect ye olde “fourth wall”, as they call it in the theater…

Please come and tell your friends in NYC to come out for the film.   Every seat we sell helps us open wider and for longer runs.  We are a truly independent operation — no big studio is behind us pulling strings.  We got here because YOU believed in us and we are truly grateful for your continuing support.

New Zealand wrap-up

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

New Zealanders packed all three screenings of WE LIVE IN PUBLIC in Auckland and Wellington.  One Kiwi blogger who writes for The Dominion Post (Wellington’s major daily paper) couldn’t get the film out of his head, writing “I squirmed in my seat” and that he was “blown away by the film.”

While in the neighborhood, Ondi rocked the radio airwaves.

bFM: http://www.95bfm.com/default,casts.sm
Kiwi FM: http://kiwifm.co.nz/ProgramGuide/Wammo/tabid/75/Default.aspx
And Radio Wammo declared WE LIVE IN PUBLIC an Editor’s Pick and gave us a little blog feature: http://www.wammo.co.nz/2009/07/23/nzff-we-live-in-public/

Ondi also stopped into the studios of TV3 New Zealand for an on-air lovefest!

“The doco about one of the first dot com kids took a decade to shoot and was cut from a mind-boggling 5,000 hours of footage. To top it all off We Live In Public took home the grand jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival, making director Ondi Timoner the only person to win the coveted award twice.”

Hey Kiwis, your cigarette packaging may be disgusting...

But your country is beautiful!

Thanks for making the New Zealand Film Festival run of WE LIVE IN PUBLIC such a success. We can’t wait to return!

Auckland Sunset

Auckland Sunset

WE LIVE IN PUBLIC is in Auckland, NZ for our first screening with the New Zealand Film Festival.  We were lucky enough to be paired up with NZ director Pietra Brettkelly who is hosting us and squiring us around this lovely country.  She directed a great doc that went to Sundance last year called The Art Star And The Sudanese Twins.

We all went to the beach yesterday and worked off our jetlag while laughing at the handful of dogs going ballistic in the volcanic sand and gazing at the glorious sky as the sun went down.

Today it’s wine tasting on some island that’s a stone’s throw from Auckland and then… our New Zealand premiere!  If you are in the neighborhood  — 9:00 PM July 23rd at Sky City Cinemas.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher recently joined the ever-growing army of We Live In Public fans. They both tweeted about our film last week, calling it “brilliant” and “amazing” respectively, driving lots of views on our trailer, hits to our site and retweets.  We love when you guys go public on behalf of WLIP, so please don’t be shy.  Shout it out!  Our official film Twitter hashtag is #wlip — join the conversation.

Flickr Tag Error: Call to display photo '3551878009' failed.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that We Live In Public has been acquired into the permanent film collection by the NY Museum of Modern Art.  This is Ondi’s second film to receive this honor —  Dig! was purchased by the museum in 2004.

There are so many upcoming exciting events on the docket: Australia, Silverdocs, LA Film Festival…. stay tuned for more info on all of it!  And as always, keep up with us on Ondi’s twitter (twitter.com/onditimoner), the official film Twitter (twitter.com/wlip), our Facebook fanpage and our website at weliveinpublicthemovie.com for festival times, news, pics, bios, our trailer, and more.  We are in the process of launching lots of cool features on our site… be afraid, be very afraid :) .

Thank you SO MUCH for all of your support!
